I realize that all this time, all the times I described people as ignorant, what I really meant was that they were unaware. It had not occured to me previously that there was a difference. As I felt it in my mind that day, I learned that describing a person as ignorant attaches to that person an air of incompassion.
I believe the word 'unaware' more accurately describes the state of mind many people around us live in today. And this is because I truly do believe that people have good intentions. Unfortunately, sometimes when we're too hard on ourselves, we also become critical of others. (This is what I struggle with most.) A person who is unaware does not know what he or she does not know.
I think this is the down side to telecommunications and the oligopolistc media, and why people take food and shelter for granted. You press a button on your remote and instantly in front of you is a person. Without technology you would have to travel miles across this Earth, maybe hundreds of thousands of miles in order to meet, to lay your eyes on this other human being. But, instead, so simply, so instantly this person is here in front of you.
